230 California St | San Francisco, CA
Metrovation’s most recent San Francisco acquisition is 230 California Street, an historic building on California between Battery Street and Front in the heart of the Financial District.
The building was constructed in 1913 for the Hind Estate Company and designed by renowned local architect John Reid Jr., the architect responsible for many of the City’s schools and public buildings. The building was once home to the private offices of legendary San Francisco mayor “Sunny Jim” Rolph.
The three-part traditional façade is distinguished by a bas-relief garland draped between the fifth and sixth floors, double hung wood and steel windows throughout, and a handsome sheet metal cornice.
230 California is next door to one of San Francisco’s enduring landmarks, the Tadich Grill, and a few doors down from Aqua, another widely acclaimed restaurant. Our new restaurant, Perbacco, should make the 200 block of California one of the outstanding restaurant destinations in the Financial District.
It has been some years since the full value of 230 California’s location and character have been realized. With the completion of Metrovation’s redevelopment, which includes the new restaurant, complete sidewalk and lobby renovation, and extensive redesign of the offices, 230 California will regain its place as one of San Francisco’s premier properties.
