Oakland’s Uptown District is one of the city’s most exciting new neighborhoods. Many upscale developments and restaurants have opened during the recent redevelopment and transformation of the area, which is just north of the center of downtown Oakland and extends to Lake Merritt. Evening crowds attend events at numerous art galleries and the historic Paramount and Fox theaters. The free Broadway Shuttle travels on Broadway between the Uptown and Jack London Square, connecting the business, restaurant and entertainment venues along the way.

The Lake Merritt Uptown Business Improvement District enhances the Uptown experience by providing street improvements, hanging baskets, and neighborhood security ambassadors.

2201 Broadway | Oakland, CA

In 2006 Metrovation acquired 2201 Broadway, one of Oakland’s finest examples of Art Deco architecture. 2201 Broadway is in the center of Uptown, Oakland’s hip and exciting arts and entertainment district, where over one billion dollars of new and proposed residential development is occurring.

Noted architect Albert Roller designed 2201 Broadway. The building, constructed in 1931, consists of over 192,000 rentable square feet contained in eight office floors and a penthouse. It has been extensively renovated and completely modernized.

2201 Broadway is on the Oakland Landmark Board’s Preservation Study List and the Local Register of Historic Resources with an “A” rating, designating our building as one of Oakland’s prime Art Deco monuments.

Metrovation has created a cultural aspect to the transformation of 2201 Broadway with our Great Wall of Oakland. (www.greatwallofoakland.org). On the first Friday of every month we project art videos onto our back wall, providing 100’ x100’ images of video art from around the world as part of Oakland’s monthly Art Murmur art walk.

Metrovation has brought new energy and capital to the Uptown neighborhood. We have succeeded in elevating 2201 Broadway to one of the most popular office buildings in Oakland.
